In a lot of ways we all seek and quest the truth. Well, here is a truth for you. Are you ready for this level of honesty? Brace yourself.
We live in a post truth society.
Yes, we live in an era were truth is maliable, at least that is what we believe. Don’t agree? Here is the evidence. How often have you heard “a Person’s perception is their truth.
For example, the sky is blue. It is a truth. However Van Gogh saw the world with a yellow flavor because of his effected eye sight. Did his reality of seeing the world witth yellow change the truth that the sky is blue? No, it does not. But yet, we are so willing in our curtent social context to not only agree the sky is yellow, but we try to convince everyine else the sky is yellow also.
This idea that truth is in the eyes of the beholder is invasive in our culture. Yes, person’s experience and perception frames how they view the world and it effects their interactions, but, and this is a hard BUT, the preceived reality does not negate truths based on facts.
This is something we are forgetting in this social culture and we are creating an impossible world for our children to live in. Ye We are creating an impossible world for us to live in. So what are WE going to do about it?
I think Ezekiel gives us our first clue? WE NEED TO SPEAK, but not any old message passing off our precieved realities as a truth. WE need to QUEST to get passed our hurts, ENGAGE healing, and SPEAK THE TRUTH of what has been measured and tested and stood the test of time.
No more saying the sky is yellow or green, but rather 1. asking: Why am is seeing the world so differently: What is going on with me to cause me to think of reality this way?. 2. Engage: the hurt that is in the self and turn toward healing 3. Then speak the difficult story of healing that brought you back to the blue skies. Not blue skies as in happy emotions, but blue skies as in factual truths.
This is Ezekiel’s task from God, to engage the people the Isrealites; challage them to deal with the disrupted reality they see, challenge them to deal with their wounds, pains, hurts, and sorrows to heal, AND speak the truth of God that loves them to enter an honorable relationship with God.
Are we bold enough to speak the difficult story that leads us back to the measurable truth of the God that saves? OR will we avoid the difficult story telling and slander the truth of the God that saves? Will we continue in lies saying my view point is the truth when it so clearly differs from the God that is the Truth, all to protect our own yellow colored view?
Ezekiel, Jeremiah, Isaiah, all the prophets call out Know God, turn toward him, know the truth of this father, and speak the difficult story of his love and generosity and healing. Honor this.
Let us pray. In Christ we know the way, the truth, and the life. This truth that Christ directs us to the enduring live of the creator engaging our brokiness and healing us. Help us not be afraid of this truth that calls us to a loving relationship. Help us to speak it to our self and to others. Amen
