The Me that I See (Celebrating Women in Ministry)

The Woman’s Spirit
Original Painting by: Abigail D. Martin
Sometimes the me that I see is so small
Sometimes the me that I see is so tall

Not in physical attributes, --- although as I age,..
down and round I will shoot.

The me that is small happens when, I fear and act less than a good neighbor.
The me that is tall happens when,  I’m bold and stand up to treat my neighbor with favor.

Cause the small that is in me, is really ‘bout self,
and the tall that I seek,  is ‘bout sharing wealth.

Wealth that does come in many great packages,
like, love, grace, and mercy, and generous practices.

With focus on being a healthier gift,
to serve others whose health causes a rift.

Yes, sometimes the me that I see is so small,  it hurts and reveals  the internal brawl.
But, sometimes the me that I see is so tall,  tending to others no matter how great their fall.

Dear Lord, on this anniversary date of the ordination of women in the Lutheran flavored Christian traditions, we ask that you give each woman of your creation, the ability to see the self in healhty ways. Provide them courage to see their raw parts of life, not as shadows of shame, but as experiences to grow out from. Help them see the “small” parts that need to be loved, so they can grow “tall” and share that love with others. Let them know that self care, exploring their story, is a way of traveling through to the others side, empowering them to be nuturing neighbors. Where there is struggle offer them strength. Where is the fear, help the know peace. Where there is lonliness, provide them companionship. Where is heart break offer them compassion. When their is desire to serve, create path ways for them to be your light. In Jesus name we pray. Amen.
