Foundational Cries: Advent Day 12. 2021, Dec. 9.

Often we hear the words “weeping and shouting” and immediately our minds race.   Images of terror or pain fill the imagination and we think the worst.  However, the weeping and yelling of the Israelites was not of pain.  Rather they cried from overwhelming joy.  Joy that resonated not just in a smile but way down deep into their bones and then down the street and around the corner.

Who would think that a simple building foundation  could evoke such a powerful response?

Foundations don’t hold our stained glass images or echo the sweet sounds of harmonies. Foundations are not  pretty wrappings  like high ceilings, grand pianos, or 30 foot pipes on an organ.

Really,  who calls their mom and says,  “Hey I found a new home.  It has a great foundation.” But maybe we should.  Maybe we should call home and say “the place on which I stand is superb, because on it, I know where I belong.”

Maybe we should be doing exactly what the  Israelites are doing  Be  excited. Be overwhelmed. Be  thankful with tears that fill our eyes. Let shouts of joy scream from our lips  for the foundation of faith that has been laid.

Maybe our voices should shout as loud as the morning sun as its radiance sings of the beautiful new day just begun.

And maybe, just maybe, our joy should be so great that the neighbors can hear it.

Then when they come to you,–  knock on your door and say,  “Are you OK?

Are you hurt, or angry,  or sad?”

You can say, ” I am not sad, or angry or mad.

For through my foundation – I am – in fact —made very glad.

For a child, he is coming, snd in him I am known,  not as sinner but as God’s very own.

A babe in a manger he will give his life,

To rub from the  memory, all pain and strife.

So please do come in,  my cries I do share,

Because of the love,  Christ Jesus did dare.

Let us pray. Lord you are not just our fortress or our hiding place, but also our foundation.  We stand upon your love. We stand upon your life giving presence.  We hope in you.  Help us to not turn our places of worship into a county club or fraternal order, but see our relationship with you as the essence of our lives to be honored and praised.  Keep us close so we my never know exile.  In Jesus name.  Amen

  1. You know…. if I did this my neighbor would think I’m nuts. So how do I show my joy in the foundation without having the cops called on me?
